ReadWriteDiscover ( RWD ) literacy Tutoring Program

Wednesday, July 26 at 1:30pm to 3:00pm more dates through August 2, 2017

Evergreen Branch Library, Community Room 2635 Aborn Rd. San José, CA 95121

Registration starts June 19 at 2 p.m. The program runs June 26 - August 2 with two weekly sessions from 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.

Is your child struggling with reading or writing? Help is available this summer from Read Write Discover (RWD), a literacy tutoring program at the library. This free program targets students who are struggling or whose families face language barriers in their communities. High school students are trained to tutor youth in grades 1-8 on reading and writing. Tutors work with the same learners every week.

HOW TO REGISTER:

Registration must be in person by either the student or his/her parent, but a valid parent signature is required on the registration form and must be submitted in person at the Evergreen Branch library.

RWD registration will take place in person on Monday 6/19/2017 from 2-3 p.m in the Community Room. Twenty students will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. If spaces remain, registration will also be open again from 5-5:30 p.m. Tuesday, 6/20.
We will keep a waiting list, if any student does not show up at the first class or misses two sessions, that student's slot will be forfeited to the next person on the waiting list.

IMPORTANT:

  • A required orientation for parents is on Tuesday, June 20, at 5:30 p.m. If a parent cannot make the Tuesday evening presentation, one make-up Family Orientation session will be offered if needed on Saturday, June 24th, from 10:30-11:30 a.m., by appointment only.
  • Children should plan to participate in at least 10 of the 12 sessions from June 26 - August 2. Students who know they would need to start late OR who will miss more than two sessions to participate may be placed on a waiting list and given the opportunity to join in if space is still available as of June 28. After two unexcused absences, students may be dropped from the program and people on the waiting list will be invited to join.
